Meet X 

X (They/ Them) is a visual artist who uses drag as their medium. Working primarily as a performer and show producer in the nightlife scene in Halifax, Nova Scotia; X uses their art to explore gender, fashion, performance and persona. Starting to produce under their stage name in 2018, X  gravitated towards this subversive art form because it allowed them to explore and evolve their art style by working on varied projects combining multiple disciplines. 

 

In addition to performing in the nightlife scene, X has gone on to work on various multimedia projects including fashion films alongside Halifax based designers, two self portraits series for various social media platforms and theatre shows creating original concepts and projection designs to go along with their performances.  X also is a self taught costume designer producing the bulk of their wardrobe and commissioned pieces for other artists. 

 

During the Covid 19 pandemic, X also produced a one person, one take digital theatrical production titled “Sxlf Txtlxd”. This was an autobiographical story of finding oneself played out to pop/ rock music and with the setting being a projection surface with an original projection design. X acted as performer and creator having developed and produced the entire project alone in their apartment debuting it digitally. 

 

Today X works in venues throughout the maritimes having become a major player in the Halifax drag scene. In 2022 they made it to the top 5 in the Coasts “Best of Halifax” in the drag performer category. Also in 2022 they tied for third place as Canadas best non-binary burlesque performers by Imperial Burlesque Canada. They continue to push themselves and the boundaries of drag and performance in Halifax and surrounding areas.
